I feel for you.
I tried using MSBackup but each time when it was complete it stated that a couple of programs could not be backed up because they were changing during the backup. One of those programs was Internet Explorer. IE is an integral part of Windows so I did not trust the back up. I use Norton's Ghost now.I gave up on MSBackup.
Seeing this is your second request with this problem I am thinking that nobody knows the answer you seek.
My best advice is to try using the .qic to restore but short of that working I am thinking you are out of luck.
I do not recall any mention of the program requiring a catalog.
From the Help file:
Restoring your data from a file
On the Restore window or wizard, in Restore from, click File.
Type a path and filename in the text box.
-Or-Click Browse, click a folder and a file within that folder, then click Open.
Note
The File option enables you to restore your data that was backed up to a file in some custom location, such as a hard disk, a network drive, or a floppy disk.
----
In looking in the Restore panel I understand you can restore everything from the file by simply inputting it's path.I am believing the catalog is used if you only want to restore specific parts of the back up file.
