Diane, Try this website for the drivers for your modem: http://support.3com.com/analogmodemsupport. htm. It will get specific so you will need to know the model you have. Have you called AST about your problem?

he sounds in trouble...
get new drivers from the us robotics site, is this a fixed com port or additional installed card?? sounds like a conflict to me, remove modem and all comm ports from device list and reboot( do not reconnect modem) then should reinstall comm ports on boot-up. then reboot again and check okay. if okay rules out pc. add modem and do again if lost modem causing( could be the drivers) get right drivers from site. if still having problems time to buy a new modem.. try internal.
