While "cleaning" up my old computer, something ungood happened. I now cannot type on my keyboard, there is no cd drive anymore, the computer will only start in Safe Mode and to even get there I get a long message that says
Cannot find a device file that may be needed to run windows or a windows application. The windows registry or system.ini file refers to this device file, but the device file no longer exsists. If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program. If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.
C:\PROGRA~1\SYMANTEC\SYMEVNT.386
press a key to continueWhich is all and good but I don't have a flipping Symantec disc and the keyboard won't work to press a key. I have to reset the computer, let it run through Safe Mode (because I can't press 1 for Normal) then go into Safe Mode.
What have I done and how can I take care of it? Thanks.

Nevermind. I found the problem. For some reason, I had to plug in my old keyboard to "press a key." Then I found a procedure to remove the Symantec info for good. After some trial and error, it's all working ok again. I think I need an upgrade in machines though.
