I have lost my ability to connect to the internet. This is true whether I try through IE or Kazaa. The usb socket is flashing indicating I have a connection, but no go. WHere might I start troubleshooting? Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you.

I think my settings are incorrect because I tried pinging a sight and it responded. However I have no idea what to do about this. THanks again.

kunchok,

Are you sure you can get out to the internet?

Try this (instead of pinging) AFTER you have done your usual connection procedure:

GOTO Start (button)

Click on Run

type: telnet m-net.arbornet.org

You should get a Telnet Window......

with words starting out like this:

Welcome to the Once and Future M-net

You can just close that window unless you want to learn how to use Unix commands.

Other items to check:

Right click My Computer Icon

Got Properties: Goto Device Manager then click on the + (plus) besides the Modem...it should open and tell you what type you are using...highlight and right click then properties.......

The next window should tell you if the device is working right!

Also -

Double click IE: Goto Tools > Internet Options > Connections

Is your ISP provider in the Dial-Up and VPN settings?

To the right Check your Settings: username, password, domain

In that same area click properties:

In the General Tab: check: Area Code, Telephone #, Country Code, Connect using

In the Server tab: check (Type of dial up Server - might have to call your ISP for info----mine is dial up and it is: PPP: Internet, Windows,etc..)

Advanced options mine is (dialup): checked for only Enable software compression....

Allowed Network connections: checked for TCP/IP Settings..

TCP/IP Settings: (checked on)

Server Assigned IP address, Server Assigned name server addressed, and Use IP header compression & Use default gateway on remote network...

If you are not getting out at all

Make sure you are not connected with your regular procedure before you try this:

Double click IE6

Goto > Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Setup which will bring up the Internet Connection Wizard......

since you already have an ISP provider, a username, a password, and a Dial UP phone number you will use the second option from the Top...(you will need to use the same username & password, Dial Up phone).....the connection name can be the name of your ISP provider but Maybe like NETZERO2 because you might have a NETZERO connection already.

go through the steps...if your ISP provider is not in the list you will use the option my ISP is NOT in the list...

Finish the steps and mabye this will work.....for your problem.

ALOT of STUFF....and it might be something simpler.....
