Some fonts were deleted and now my windows look wrong. the "minimize", "maximize", and "close" buttons have weird symbols now (also boxes that should show "x" to select are messed up). How can I tell what font needs to be reinstalled, and how do I change the window setting (haven't seen any place to change the font on the button in the display settings)

Right click on the desktop and select 'properties' then 'appearance'. There is a font selection box there, try messing with it.

Dont know if I am correct but I think the font may be MS Sans Serif (Western) as it is the common system font hope this helps

Just discovered two recent messages having something in common, and a less recent one which has left a trace to even earlier messages of a related problem. I summarize here. #56676 dated 001222, bon reported disappearance of max/min/close buttons. #56666 dated 001222, Doris reported disappearance of some fonts and, consequently or not, wierd thing happens to min/max/close buttons. #55307 dated 001211, roberto reported disappearance of some fonts when and after running Outlook Express and/or Word 97. Also left a trace to earlier messages (# not sure). Do you see something in common? What is going on out there? Learned friends of the forum, encore un effort? I post this message to both #56666 & #56676 to call for your attention.
