Norton Utilities is telling me that the file pci.dll is missing on my PC.

Does anyone know what it does? Can they send me a copy?

Ironically, I'm here to ask the same question. I think it to be related to the VIA Apollo chipset/drivers in the computer I am working on (does yours have same?). pci.dll is being called by vtnirq.pci in the windows/system directory. Any help is appreciated!!

I'm also trying to locate copy pci.dll. It's called by vtpciirq.pci in my W98; and also discovered missing by Norton Utilities. (I have no idea what they relate to.) Would appreciate a copy if anyone located it. Thanks, Tom

Had the same prob with norton utilities 3.0, now running NU 4.0 - Solution - I found a few versions of this file (pci.dll) from www.windrivers.com, Sad to say when the problem was resolved, I accidently deleted the pci.dll file. NOW, I cannot even find it at www.windrivers.com Will try to locate new site for download and tell you guys and appreciate the same gesture. Thanks

This file has no bearing on the way your system works. But to resolve the problem just go to c:\windows\system make a text file called pci.dll or vtpciirq.pci or whatever Norton said that you needed and...... bingo you got it.....

Same problem with NU and W98. I also use the VIA Apollo MVP3 Chipset with a Cyrix MIII 6x66MX-PR333 CPU. NU says missing file ....vtnirq.pci ... cannot access...pci.dll. vtnirq.pci is present (4kb 8/26/98 7.05pm) but no pci.dll in any of my systems. I ponder whether it is anything to do with the onchip USB BIOS chipset features and something to do with assigning the IRQs for USB in PNP/PCP. The only reason I say this is because I have turned these features on. I am not a h/w guru so don't really understand all the above but it might help someone out there.

Also HELP!!!! to fix the problem.

Regards

I am having the same problem, everytime I restart/start my computer Norton Utilities finds an error, I have to clear it by running the disk utilities, which finds file/dll "vtnirq.pci" missing. I punch the repair button and it says it has repaired the problem, but no green arrow, and the next restart I have to repeat the whole process. Find file/folder shows vtnirq.pci in two places on my computer, and everything seems to run fine. Win-98, MII 300mzh, 128 mb Ram, USB turned on, Lucent V-90 56.6 Modem
HWP 670C Printer, Toshiba Monitor w/USB controller that I have not found the drivers for as yet(any Ideas where to pick up these drivers?) And what is a vtnirq.pci????

PCI.DLL file is not needed. Create a dummy
file, name it pci.dll and copy it to C:\Windows\System and it solves the problem.

You're getting this error from WinDoctor. WinDoctor is not reporting an error - it is reporting an inconsistency. The inconsistency is a registry pointer that has no corresponding file. This happens frequently with OEM versions of Windows which you typically get on name brand machines like Compaq, Dell, Gateway, etc.

Go into WinDoctor and tell it to just "Ignore" the error. It's no big deal you do not need the file.

Same problem here. The idea of creating a "placeholder" PCI.DLL is brilliant and seems to have fixed the problem.

For anyone that cares, here are the specs: MVP3 motherboard... all the usual stuff except for SB wavetable sound, Voodoo3 video (kicks butt, BTW) and an Acer 6206A CD-ReWriter. The problem was detected by Norton Utils about a week after I added the CD-RW... anybody else here have the same CD-RW?

Thanks, folks.

Will the dummy file only make norton stop recognizing it as a problem, or will it fix it. When it started seeing that file was gone my Wav's stopped... SO no I can't hear if my computer has a prob when I'm in the other room... SO anyway, will it fix it, or just make norton think it's there?

I guess we could just create a dummy file with a bunch of weird ASCII characters and offer it online as pci.dll? The ones who don't believe this will fix it would never know the difference! All sarcasm aside, it worked for me!

My system was operating fine, until my SB128 soundblaster stopped working for some reason. The error message was system rerouted AudioPCI. I used Norton 3.0 to find and fix but learned that my PCI.DLL file is missing. How is this possible? And is it related to the PCI file and what the heck is a PCI.DLL?

For this lost file, go to " www.aopenusa.com ". it is a file for via chipset so select there your kind of motherboard for the download... the new upgrade is call " 4in1411.exe " and this is what you need.

I tried to use "Find" to get to this file, but it was not found.
While I was trying to start a dummy file "vtpciirg.pci", I found it under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ (using Windows Explorer)
This file is hidden and Norton doesn't know how to find it.
Good luck.

If you are using a Via vhip, Via has a fix for the Norton Disk Doctor missing PCI.DLL file at http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/index.htm
Download the VIA IRQ Routing Driver ver 1.3a
The downloaded file, irq13aw.exe contains a revised vtnirq.pci file and the missing pci.dll

If you want the file VTPCIIRQ.PCI you need to download the file VIRQ11.ZIP--I found it at the ATI Technologies web site--it was part of the ALL-IN-WONDER 128 VIDEO CARD DRIVERS-SET--just unzip and run the setup installs automaticly--good luck......

same problem, however a dummy file may work. but on compaq there are many "problems when you swith anything from the "original version.
be carefull about installing stuff from ant site.usa esspecially if you have a compaq and have changed from mcafee to norton. the reason MS or any one else won't help is because it is in there contract with MS. The version of windows that comes with compaq it different than any other and contains driver only compaq has and they wil not re release them. you could loose vidio, sound dvd ect...
A very good hacker needs to get those drivers vidio sound ...all of them out of the quick restore and customer serevice pack.

you have been warned Computer engineer sighns off

I had the missing pci.dll file on Norton also and was told that it was a Norton Glitch and to just label it as "Ignore". I believe that I got that information from Norton Web site. I don't believe the file exists. However, I upgraded to Norton 2000 and now it wants that VTPCIIRQ.PCI. I found it at http://www.krman.com/Support/Windows/drivers/MotherBoard/MX59Pro/VIA4in1/IRQ/ if anybody wants it. It looks like its part of the VIA 4 in 1 download also from VIA which I did a long time ago. Also my computer has been running just fine without it..
