Uninstalled Easy Cd Creator to reinstall it,as it told me it was missing files, and lost access to my r: drive. At boot up I see it detect
the Sony cd-rom and in DOS it will switch to the R: drive but In Windows it is missing. I tried to reinstall cd-rom into hardware
manager from control panel but it needs files off of the Windows 98 cd rom and can't access the path to R: to get it. All these
problems and the conflicts I see in Hrdware manager ( soundcard, secondary harddisk controller(fifo),power management) all arose
from my upgrading from win95 to win98. Should I consider reformatting and reloading the OS and software? If so How should I go
about it?

mmmm, try this.
re start your pc on re starting hit the F2 button, you should get list of options, you need to choose load and save original configuration, press yes , it should get your cd back on line.
Good luck

if you look in windows directory look for the following subdirectory:\options\cabs. if that is there, try reinstalling the cdr and when it asks for the cdr files, point it to that (cabs) subdirectory. it should find what it is looking for. but seeing you have as many problems as you do since upgrading I would consider saving any important data to diskette, zip, whatever and reformatting the drive & reinstalling the OS. win98 has a few bells and whistles that are an improvement, but if win95 worked for you, then leave it alone. i've seen too many computers come into this shop with the upgrade that has caused nothing but disaster. you may get other opinions, but this is mine: IF IT WORKS, DON'T BREAK IT!

If you have told the upgrade O/S to save your old O/S, you can remove it from your system and restore your old O/S with the add/remove icon in the control panel.
Perhaps this may help....
