Comment:

I have win 95 with a second hard drive as master on secondary port and cd rom as slave on secondary.

I.e second hard drive was drive D, CD was E

Problem is I'm trying to replace CD drive as it is broken. But it now comes as D drive and does not have 2nd hard drive.

How can I push CD drive to E and get back hard drive on D. Note , don't want to lose data on hard drive.

Used DISKGO to initially install hard drive but there does not seem to be an option just to assign it a letter.

Make sure your jumpers are set correctly.
The secondary hard should be set as master and the CDROM drive set as the slave.

Jumpers are set correctly. We have not changed them.

All we were trying to do was replace broken CD drive.

Hi Elektra,
Is your second hard drive showing at post
and in Device manager. If not windows will allocate your cd-rom as D:
You can change the drive letter for your cd-rom in Control panel\system
click on device Manager TAB,
Click on the plus sign underCD-ROM
click on your cd-rom,
Click on PROPERTIES at the bottom,
Click on SETTINGS tab
Now change your drive letter.
Start drive letter
End drive letter
Click on OK then OK again
Good Luck

----------------

Go into the device manager to the drive(s) you want to change the letters of and select
properties. Then on the settings tab you will see "Reserved Drive letter". Change that to read
the letter you want, in both 'start, and end' drive letter assignment.
Reboot

Thanks
Have managed to sort it now. In trying to change CD drive back to E and get the D Drive back my husband had changed BIOS to auto-detect for the hard disk.

Changed CD drive back to E - reserved letter
and put BIOS back as it was.

I think it was his way of breaking computer so we could buy a more up to date one !
