I'm looking for a 'clear' screen saver.
We have a win98 machine that has a program on it that monitors our network.. when a connection somewhere bounces, it changes a button from green to red on the screen and sounds an alarm. We have a screen saver password on it to protect it from people possibly poking around in it. (There is no real threat, but auditors insisted =/)
Unfortunately, every time the alarm goes, we have to go and unlock the screen saver to see what device is bouncing.
I'm looking for a screen saver that is clear, let's me see what is happening on the desktop, but if someone is to move the mouse or touch the keyboard, then the screensaver password would kick in like normal.
That way the auditors would be happy that it isn't "open" to be played on, and I'm happy that I don't have to keep going over and putting in the password to see who is having an issue.
Has anyone heard of a screen saver that does this? Where can I find one?
It seems every screen saver search I do, I wind up fighting ad banners and pop-up ads galore, with very little actual content on the sites.Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

i know what you mean. most of the screen saver site i visited just had links to more sites that had links to even more sites.then you end up in the same place you started with about 15 pop screens and no screen savers. maybe you don't need a screen saver. if a screen saver was made to be clear then it wouldnt be doing a good job at "saving" it form screen burns. maybe you can search for a software the locks the keys after a set time and requires a password to to have use of all the keys again. try download.com good luck!!

Lock the computer in a cabinet or closet and tell the auditors to go pound sand! Who's computer is it anyways?

Actually, the "science" screen saver won't work. Before it locks, it takes a snapshot of the screen to use as the screen saver. It won't show changes taking place - watch the clock on the "science" screen saver to see what I mean.

Why not get screensave software and make your own. I use a program called "Create Screensavers" by Individual software, about 29 bucks and you can use Transparent or masked graphics, so I am assuming it is feasible.

Try this one it'll do the job and get a giggle the first time someone sees it.

scroll down the page to find the "FISH MAUS"
downloadIt's also configurable so don't shy away at the first time you run the test.
It does move the pixels around but you can still see something that changes behind it.
Have fun !!

Just a note for those looking for other screensavers, and teed off at getting redirects.
The sight mentioned in my previous post here, has MORE screensavers and the dowload links appear to be on sight,
