I have recently build a computer with a Soyo motherboard and a AMD Duron 1.3Ghz CPU. When I try to install Win' 98 SE it locks up at certain parts of the opening activites of the Windows Setup. Now it is starting to give me messages about memory and certain file not being able to be written to the Hard Drive. I am about at my whit's end with this thing.

Error: Insufficient memory to load system files...
(due to conventional memory).Error:
Insufficient memory to load system files. Format terminated.Cause:
When you try to format your hard disk by typing
FORMAT C: /Q /U /S /V at a command prompt, you may receive this
error message. This can occur if there is not enough free
conventional memory.Solution:
To work around this issue, do not use the S parameter (switch)
with the FORMAT command.
Start up with your Boot disc or Startup disk in ( without cd rom support )
At the A: prompt , type , sys c: and then press ENTER.Take out the boot disk & restart your computer.

For me the best way is (after formatting the HD), booting the pc (make sure your first boot device in BIOS is cd rom) and copying the win98 directory from the cd to HD and run setup from the HD itself. This also eliminates the need to go searching for your Win cd when installing some other hardware, all .cab files are on your HD.
