howdy, just another case of locking up tight at the WIN98 splash screen. PIII500 (compaq -ick-) 128MB ram, WIN98 with dual boot into WIN NT and very recently added a DDR GEFORCE (potential culprit).... BUT it does not ALWAYS lock up. 30% failure rate. when it DOES lock, it locks up at "vswp.vxd" which is in system.ini at the 386enh somesuch folder... this seems to be the culprit but if so, why not hand all the time? the UNRELIABILITY of the problem makes me think that it may be a POWER problem or HARD DRIVE but i boot into WIN NT successfully every time AND safe mode always loads without problems. i tried re-installing the vid card drivers (detonator 5.14) in win98 but no go... i ran regclean numerous times as well.... look through the device manager looking for conflicts and such... nothing. why is this happening?! and why 30%?! this thing's really bugging me now.... I have a similar problem except my PC will not load windows, hanging midway. Diagnostics reports the problem: VFAT device initialization failed rEGISTRY FILE. C\windows\system\VSWP.VXD (which I believe is the Yamaha soft synth driver). Did you have any luck sorting your problem out?
