Hi again,

I have given up on the hard drive failure, but all I need to do now is retrieve my outlook.pst file.

Does anyone know the default location of this file for Outlook 2000 running on Win98 ?

Thanks,
Tom

Can't load windows...can only use dos.

Search nor find commands work in dos on win98.

Is there another command ?

Thanks,

Tom

can you put that drive in another computer as a slave instead and get the files out?

To continue from craig's response: the dir *.pst/s command will display all files in the current folder (called directory in DOS) and sub folders. But it will not display files which are outside the present directory.

Example:
if you are in C:\> and you type the dir /s command the search is executed in the root folder C: . The files in D: or E: will not be found. So you will have to type that command at C:, D: and other partitions.
(The search will take a loooong time in DOS)

You could try that command in C:\progra~1>outloo~1> directory. That must fetch the files for you.
btw, why is win98 not starting?
if you need help on that, post another thread..or have u?

Good Luck and Happy Computing,

I either cannot access the Local Settings folder or I do not have one on Win98.

I have windows/application data, but could not find outlook.pst even with
attrib -h /s
dir /s outlook.pst

Here is the reason why I need to get a copy of outlook.pst -

Another suggestion:
If you have a spare hard drive big enough to load win98 and office 2000 (about 1 Gig will do). Install win98 and office2000 (CD1 only) on this small hard drive and hook up your faulty hard drive as a slave drive. You should then be able to backup any files (including your outlook files) to the small hard drive.

Once you have done that you can attempt to repair/re-install the faulty hard drive without fear of loosing your data.

You could try

attrib *.pst -s -h -r /s
dir *.pst /s

I agree with bud. Just piggy-back the drive on another machine...
