what is loadqm.exe
its in my ctrl alt del menu
and it is in the c: windows directory
does anyone know what this is?

loadqm.exe is a Query Manager file which is part of the MSN Messenger Program. I believe it checks for messages and such while you're on-line. A lot of people have taken the checkmark out of it in the Startup Menu with no adverse affects.

Do you have MSN Explorer? The file is installed with MSN Explorer and loads the Query Manager, a program that lets the "community" of MSN users know when you are online. It also checks to see if you have new mail, if your buddies are on, etc. I've read that people have simply deleted it from msconfig with no residual problems, but that's a decision you'll have to make on your own.

I run Zonealarm and it never detected Loadqm.exe until tonight when I rebooted my machine. I loaded a couple DivX players and some tools that required the reboot. But, now I remember last night I was informed that "A new version of Microsoft Instant Messenger is available, would you like to download and install it?"
My guess is that it was installed with the new Instant Messenger Service.

Matt you're right. It comes in with the update for msn messenger, although it's reported to have come with MSN explorer as well. I took the bait and ran the update for msn messenger, and as soon as it set up, my firewall reported Qmanager trying to reach out/ call home, what ever. I dumped the darned thing and it's associated crud , and msn messenger works just fine without it.
You'd think Billy's boys could find something more useful to do than play eye spy. ;)

how nice i go to delete this loadqm.exe and it says this file is being used by windows and cant be deleted, lol.zone alarm so far from what ive seen works alot better than dumb norton etc all it is just glitzy gui bundle stuff, but zone alarm works decent.
