I cannot run up NERO without it hanging at the stage it is detecting SCSI/IDE buses. It has been suggested I update my bus drivers as I am on the limit of min spec for burning. Is this true and if so how do I go about doing this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can get a flash BIOS update from the manufacturer of your system. Doing that and clearing the NVRAM in your system might have an effect to get past that screen. Won't hurt, might help.

Have you got DMA enabled for all your IDE devices...HDD, CDROM and CD Burner
Go to Device Manager and check each individual device
CDROM for ROM and Burner
Disk Drives for HDD
Click Properties then Settings for each, and check the box for DMA
