OS: Win 98
CPU/Ram: 300Mhz/640KB

I have an 5 yr old Compaq 1250 laptop and have just reformatted the hard drive. The CD drive doesn't work so I can only boot from a floppy. I have a Zip CDRW that connects through USB. Can I use that to reload the Win 98 OS? Or any other way to load the OS? I have the original CDs. Thanks! Sterno

Maybe the easiest way is to put the drive in a desktop with an adaptor and copy the Win98 folder to the hard drive and reinstall from there on the laptop. If you can get the USB drive to load from MS-DOS (probably by modifying CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT) you MIGHT be able to do it from there. Sometimes USB support is tricky from DOS.

make sure your laptop setup prog is set to "load from cdrom at startup". then just use the recovery cd. it will auto load the cdrom drivers.

Don,
Thanks! I'll try that first by attempting to take the drive out and hooking it up to my desktop.

Survivor,
Thanks, but the problem is the CD drive is not working at all. I checked setup first and its set to load from cdrom.
