I reformatted hard drive after kid messed up pc. Added new CMOS battery as pc time/date would not stay set up. Was able to format hard drive partition for OS w/original Copmaq disks (F10 button WORKS!) PC errors out says something about a missing "lmouse.vxd" file...The only thing I can think of is I moved a Logiteck mouse to my new PC from this one when PC itself wouldn't work right (the time date thing). I plugged in regular mouse to this OLD W98 PC and W98 refuses to get past a very lenghthy error but in part says "cannot find
device file"..."but device file no longer exists" - that would be correct because I removed the device -the Logitech mouse). then it says something about a missing "lmouse.vxd" file -
When I start up in safe mode, the old fashioned mouse works just fine, but
there is no CD drive and no A: drive. How can I get all of the Logiteck files
out of my W98 pc so it stops looking for the mouse at every boot up? Logitech was of no help. Do I need to reformat? and if so can I reformat without losing my partition information? since this, the date/time refuses to stay set as well. will a reformat fix this too?

Install the Logitech mouse drivers.

If the date and time are not correct you may have installed the wrong battery, installed upside down, bent the contacts or there is a problem with the MBoard. Make sure you save your changes in the BIOS screens when exiting. You should be able to find drivers for your logitech mouse. What exact type of mouse is it? Wireless, bluetooth, corded laser, etc.

Try this; run msconfig and open system.ini. Expand 386Enh. Highlight the 'mouse=' line and click 'edit' and change whatever's there to:

mouse=*vmouse, msmouse.vxd
