where can i get Linux (I hear it is free)? I want to get rid of my microsoft ways and leard to do for self, not be spoonfed. Any Ideas? Please advise. I have seen Red HAt on the web, but there is a cost. i am looking for free LINUX tools, software, and advise

Go to http://www.linux.org. You can buy a CD, ($5 for a CD from http://www.lsl.com or cheapbytes.com) or if you have a fast connection you can download it, for free. If you buy a CD, there is no legal reason why you can't put copies on every one of your friend's computers, assuming that you have a pure GPL distribution.

GPL is the license that Linux and a lot of other software is based on. Gnu Public License means basicially that you can give it away for free, you can charge money for it, as long as the source is available freely.

Caveats:
1. It's not easy to install. It's not hard, but not easy.
2. You won't be able to run most Windows 95 programs.
