Check with Linksys for the appropriate Software for your OS.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

You are probably much better off posting on the Networking forum on this site, but I'll give it a shot.

Did you follow the installation directions?
E.g. you often have to install the drivers, THEN you install the card, or plug in the USB connected device.

Do you have the original Win 98 or Win 98SE?
Lots of wireless adapters have drivers for 98SE and ME but DO NOT have ones for 98. The ones for 98 won't work with 98SE and visa versa.
If you're not sure....
Start - Run - type: msinfo32 (click on OK)
The Windows version is stated on the first line in the right pane.
4.10.2222A is 98SE.

Assuming you have installed the proper drivers for the operating system and the wireless adapter is working .......
Wireless network adapters are not necessarily listed under Network Adapters in Device Manager - they may be listed somewhere else in Device Manager.
There was no such thing as a wireless network connection when 98, 98SE, and ME were released, so there is no built in support like there is in XP.
In 98, 98SE, and ME, as well as you having to have the proper drivers loaded, you must use some utility that comes with the drivers to set up the wireless connection.
You must use that utility and the right settings in it to get the wireless adapter to operate correctly.
E.g.
The SSID name has to be the same as that in the router's settings, and the same as other computer's wireless adapter settings on the same wireless network.
The channel has to be the same - that's usually 6 by default.
The workgroup name has to be the same for all the devices on the network and the router.
If the router and other wireless adapters are using an encryption key, the win 98 wireless adapter must use the same key.

XP SP2 defaults to requiring encryption for your wireless adapter connection and your router's wireless configuration.
E.g. You can often see what the exact encyption key is in the router's configuration.
If the router has an encryption key, you cannot connect to it from the win 98/98SE computer's wireless adapter until you set up the utilty to use the same encryption key the router is using.

You cannot see a router directly in 98, 98SE.
You can only see evidence of the network adapter's connection to it.
Start - Run - type: command (click on OK)
type: ipconfig /all (press Enter)
If you see an IP Address 192.168.0.xxx you are are probably connected to the router.

You also forgot to mention DHCP vs. a static IP address. Definitely search or post in the network forum for that.
