when i click on a link that wants to open a new window it will not open..all i get is an "empty frame" or a "border" i try r-click\open in new window..and that will not open either..on a few of these i can hit "stop" and then "go" and it will open...but the ones that have "javascript:openWindow" in the beginning of the address followed by the file name will not open...if i manually open a new window with my file button in the tool bar i get a new window no prob...i tried the following fixes
virus scan
restore internet option defaults
registerd the files...urlmon.dll...shdocvw.dll...msjava.dll...mshtml.dll...browseui.dll
restored the oleaut32.dll file from my 98se disk..version 2.40 in my win sys folder
and i did reboot
nothing is working..also no popup ad is loading either (like i care)
i am using ie 6.0
any help would be appreciated

Hi Phil, hi everyone,Your issue comes from a bad OLEAUT32.DLL!
Download and run MCREPAIR.exeHave a good day,

Hi Phil, hi everyone,Have a look at this excellent thread -> Windows95-145884
and also at this page by MicroSoft -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;281679Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France

since posting this question i did try mcrepair...it didnt work..but i fixed it by going to "add remove programs" and clicking on ie and using the repair tool...its fine now...i hope anyone else with this prob tries this...it was simple

Phil
Yes, that's always the best first option to try because it's quite harmless even if it doesn't cure the problem. If there's any problem it just refuses to proceed. Like you I always try the simple cures first LOL.
Glad you fixed it and thanks for popping back - I'm sure Gérard will appreciate your feedback (not everyone bothers).
Derek

... ooops, I didn't read your post properly because I now see you did try a few other ideas.
Always be careful replacing IE files from the W98SE CD because they will be the "old original IE5" files that came with the initial Windows load. Most folks have updated their IE since then - like you with IE6. Glad you got away with it.
Derek

yeah i could have made a mistake by restoring that file...but i know if i did i could fix it..ive been pretty lucky that way
i dont always do what i should..for other readers.. backing up the old file would have been wise..

Hi Phil, Derek, hi everyone,I realize I had not read the initial message carefully enough as I wrote the cause was OLEAUT32.DLL while Phil had already written he had tried a restore! :-( sorry for having poorly read!
Of course, thanks a lot for posting back! I always appreciate as I perform personal statistics in my head (LOL) and remember what often solves issues, etc.
Have a good day,
Gérard from Paris, France
