I just recently built my own system and decided to install my usual dual-boot configuration of 95 and 2000 Pro. However, after installation of 95, it wouldn't boot due to a Windows Protection Error. So I'm wondering whether there actually any limits to to 95, as in, are the fast CPUs and the amount of memory too much 95? I read that 98 could not support more than 512 MB of RAM, and I'm hoping that 95 does not have stricter requirements. Thanks in advance.

In 98 the fix is to set [vcache] in system.ini to 1/4 total ram size : [vcache] MinFileCache=131072 MaxFileCache=131072 ChunkSize=512 The above for .5 GB RAM. Don't know if it will help 95. Also there is some speed limit at 2.1 GHz ; KB 312108 but i seem to remember that is for networked computers. Best

The KB that jubalsams refers to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312108 indicates that you could get a fix if you're running Win98, but they have no plans for a Win95 fix...(figures)

Sarahh, it's not the RAM that's causing the problems, it's the processor speed. I remember reading a couple of posts here regarding this issue, but I haven't been able to locate them, & I don't remember just what the speed limit is. Why even use Win95 on this machine? I would think Win98 SE and Win XP would be the best combination for this system, if you want an older OS. But that's just me... Lightspeed.
