So your error is exactly like the one in this previous thread?

From here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/183808

a likely cause is those files are corrupted. You can extract the originals from your 98 cd. Put it in the cdrom. If it autostarts, close it. Go to START--RUN and type in SFC. Then OK.

Choose to extract a file and enter the file name and click 'start'.

From the 'restore from' line browse to the WIN98 folder on the 98 cd. On the 'save file in' line type in, or browse to, C:\WINDOWS\WEB. Then 'start'. It'll ask if you want to overwrite the existing file. Answer 'yes'. Replace the mycomp.htt first. Then try opening 'my computer' and see if it works OK.

Or maybe explain the problem in your own words, including your IE version and any software changes that preceded the problem.

An also ran is anything Norton being installed. Since I use VB script quite a bit, I just got rid of my Norton and solved the exact same problem and error codes for good.

I can't fathom how they make any money with software that bad.

Best to install the last 5.6 Visual Basic Scripting Host package too.
