Comment:

a) 'lexplore' (lowercase L) is constant annoyance
b) Cannot run ScanDisk in Reg. or Safe-Mode
c) "Explorer (not responding)", "The Page Cannot Be Displayed", "You Have Run Out of Disk Space On Drive C"

The file Lexplore is a virus known as sodabot. Have a look at the Security and Virus Forum for further advice.

Yeah, it seems to be fairly common. I get it every now and then. It seems to load from a randomly named file that sneaks into your system.

If a CTRL-ALT-DEL shows it to be running I shut down the computer and restart in dos mode. Then I check the windows and windows\system folders for recently added files I know aren't supposed to be there and delete them. The I do a scanreg/restore to restore a registry from before the problem.

It may be too late for you to do a scanreg/restore but some of the malware detection software Rimfire suggests should work OK.

Well, I appreciate your input and link, which I've read before, so I've now come full-circle with 'lexplore' because:
a) I checked the registry......NADA 'wrong'
b) my AV's, AS's and AA are up-to-date
c) No AV lists 'Sodabot' in their Virus Encyc.
d) I've run all scans in Safe Mode

I wished there was a solution.

Update...
Went to 'Start'...'Find'... 'File' and typed in *W32 and up came 'W32.hllw.sodabot[1].htm' (properties date: 08-24-05) and deleted same. Since I've it's been annoying me approx. May '05 I don't know if action will stop it. (??)

Update....

Nope... that did not do it, 'lexplore' is back but not the 'sodabot' file.

Any ideas?

Wouldn't it be nice if we could disinfect a computer by deleting just one file.

You really need an antivirus program to do the cleanup. First of all you might like to visit Panda to use an online scanner to remove the worm.

The next thing you should do is install an antivirus program and keep its files up to date. If the price of a commercial product is to high, there are freeware ones such a AVG. You'l find a link to it in the 'click here' link at the top of this forum.
