Does anyone own the 3-in-one multifunction Lexmark X83? I've noticed lately that its price is coming down (around $150-$170 USD) and I'm thinking of buying it for my Win98SE computer. I need a low-cost machine that can print, copy and scan.[BTW, I'm not concerned about the price of ink because I intend to refill the cartridges at a very cost from a number of web-based ink dealers]
How is the quality of printouts of text and photos, and the quality of copies of text and photos?
If it isn't used for a couple of days or more (or is completely unplugged for that same duration), do the printheads clog/dry up quickly and become useless?
Also, when it is actively used, do the printheads have any ink-dripping/leaking problems?
Thanks all.

Hi Alexander
We have a Lexmark color ink jet and a Lexmark (Kodak) personal picture maker printer. Neither are multifunction but work well.
We also have three Xerox multifunction, two with laser printers, photocopier, fax. One is an inkjet with a scanner and printer. Prints fine and pictures look good. It's an M950 workcentre. Price was very reasonable. No ink problems but we do not load our own cartridges which may make a difference. They are costly to replace but are always good.
For my own preference and what gets the most use, is my HP laser (black toner.) Super quality and inexpensive to operate. Toner lasts one to three years, depending on output. For excellent picture quality and considering price, I like the Epson. Neither are multifunction.
Two things I would check prior to purchase. One is scanner resolution and would recommend that it's laser printer. The extra you spend at the beginning will save you many dollars in the end. Lexmark should be a good choice.
Even though we do own three, I am not a big multifunction fan and prefer stand alone equipment.
Good luck in your purchase.
