I leave my PC's on 24/7. Others don't. You'll hear a zillion heated reasons for/against, but in the end its a personal choice. I DO recommend turning off your monitor. You wouldn't leave your TV on all night, would you? Simple economics.

I've worn out on/off switches. I shut mine off at night or when leaving the house, don't want surprises when I get back like a basement hole full of ashes. The printed circuit board heating and cooling debate that's sure to come? Tv's, microwaves, vcr's, etc have printed circuit boards and they get turned on and off more than most pc's. In all these years I only had one(1) on/off problem which was a bad factory solder joint in a monitor.

I turn my system off every day when I'm at work and at night before bed. It might be hard on the video card on re-starts, but it saves your system from lightning storms when you are not there and on power consumption although it's probably next to nothing. You're cpu fan will last longer too.

I turn mine off every night using a power bar switch, saves the switch on the pc. I also have my screensaver come on after 15 minutes and have set my power schemes to remain on. It seems to preserve the life of my pc

Personally I'm on 24/7 except if I'm gone for 3 or more days.

It depends on the usage, if the computer is used for any server uses it's on all the time, if it's a client, I reduce the poweroffs on it to before leaving to work and before going to bed. Leaving it on all the time will eventually wear it out and constantly turning it on and off will too. On all computers that support it I run HLT cooling programs that significantly decreases power consumption and temprature. If the CPU fan wears out, I'll just buy a new one, they aren't that much. I also turn off the monitor when leaving for a long time.
Summary: Can leave it on or off. Some say the constant on and off will weaken the solder joints from heat and cold. I've turned mine on and off for years and no problems. I live in the woods and am only conce...
