latitude cpi a and diablo II

I am trying to play Daiblo II on a Dell Latitude CPI A laptop with Windows95. The game installs fine, the video test indicates no problems, but when I hit 'play game', it gives me a fatal exception error OE message. I installed direct x7, downloaded the latest video and audio drivers: Neomagic 256AV and spent a lot time on the phone with Dell and Blizzard.
Is anyone playing this game on a Dell Latitude? Does anyone have any ideas why this isn't working?
