Hello...
I checked out my buddy's Compaq Presario 1200 laptop for him. The thing won't boot up at all. It worked one day, next day....dead. Upon turning it on, you can hear the HD start, but that's where it all ends. Nothing on monitor, and no beeps, or chimes. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks

hi there, try pressing with palm of your hand near the rty keys, sometimes power management board becomes loose, or try tightening the screws if any are loose.

I am having a similar problem with a Compaq Preario 1720US laptop. I actually thought it was the battery at first and spent a nice chunk of change on a new one. I let that battery charge overnight, and I still get the same result:
Power LED comes on for 5-10 seconds, the Hard drive spins, but nothing else, blank screen etc... and then the LED power's off.
It has been quite frustrating looking for an answer on the web, and it seems Compaq doesn't have any answers. I guess my next stop is to a repair shop to drop some more change.
