I have a Compaq Armada 1750 Laptop, and recently it has started suddenly freezing (no mouse movement or application ) completeley dead. Cannot switch it off CTRL ALT DEL does not work. To power down, I have to take the battery out. I have also tried to take the hard disk out to no avail. Now it does not boot up, the hard disk, caps, and the character 1 light is permanently on at the same time the power/battery light keeps flashing which tells me perhaps that the PC is in Suspend/Hibernate mode. Is there a way of resetting it. Your help is appreciated.

Howdy, I would give Compaq a call and see what they have to say. If you did nothing wrong it might have just tied. Either all Comtrash or take it to a tech.
Laters,
Kevin The Tech Dude.

Don't understand what comtrash is, but got a friend of mine who is an IBM PC Engineer to have a look @ it and he says looks like the System board is dead ! How can I have blown the system board by taking the battery out to power it down, I cannot understand. Anyway, are there any tell-tale signs which confirm that the system board is dead ?

I had the same thing happen with my Acer laptop. ACER claimed to have fixed the problem 3 times, then returned the same broken computer. They finally replaced the computer when they didn't have any new system boards in stock. When I got the new computer, it made a noise I had never heard on my old one--it was the cooling fan! I'm sure the system board on the first computer just fried from heat.

How can I be sure it is the system board that is dead. The PC could be in suspend/hibernate mode. Anybody out there got a Compaq Armada 1750 ? Please help...bought this Pc from someone privately so there is no warranty, would be a shame to scrap it !
