I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT Notebook with Li-Ion Battery Pack model no: PA 2487U N.
Problem: Battery discharges when everything is shut down and Notebook is not in use. I replaced the battery recently but that didnt solve the problem. The battery does not discharge if I remove it from the Notebook and sit it on shelf.
I fully charged battery on Oct 10th and left it in Notebook. Today (Oct 24th) the battery was only 25% charged when I went to use it.

Battery life has always been the 'weak leg' on older laptops.Your solution is not that bad even though time consuming.Good luck.

How old is the battery? It might need replacing. Batteries do not last forever.

Is the laptop DEFINITELY powering off when you shut down ?
i.e. it's not going into sleep / standby mode without you realising ?

I would suspect that the Power Supply module is defective. On shutdown, it should disconnect the battery. I've seen a module fail such that when the computer has been shut down, there's still power on the MoBo (but not to the hard drive & display). It shouldn't be a terribly expensive fix, but you never know.
