L2 Cache / Athlon Performance Problem

Comment:
I have an Athlon 550, on an SD-11 motherboard, AMI BIOS version nc610, running Win98se whose performance is very poor. While 512k of L2 cache is detected, it is "off" and not used. Any suggestions? The BIOS does not have an option to enable / disable the cache (that I have found).
