Hi everyone. I was wondering if there was anyway to kill Outlook Express. By that I mean completly remove the program from Windows. I found this really cool utility on the net called Ieradicator 2001 that completely removed Internet Explorer from my life. Now I just want to do the same thing only with Outlook Express. The reason? I'm not a big fan of Ie or Outlook. I'm happier using Netscape for all my needs. Anyways any help would be greatly appreciated.
Can I use some kind of utility to remove the program? Going into the Registry could get a bit messy.

I think ding meant Install/Uninstall rather then Windows Setup.

Look under M for Microsoft.

... a bit more.

There used to be an MS article about doing this manually (Q256219) and a 1.5M file for download to get shot of the registry entries. The first step was what you have been given. They may have got shot of this extra stuff because it caused problems - who knows.

If you get stuck and are prepared to stick your neck out I can send you Q256219 and the file.

Sorry to disagree Derek, but it is as ding said. You go to control panel/add remove programs/windows setup and then uncheck the outlook express box. It will give you the mumbo-jumbo garbage about that action will also remove the address book and do you really want to do that? But that is how you remove outlook express. Sorry.

Well, tried it Terry and ding's way,but get
this, the box for Outlook Express was already
unchecked. That was pretty strange. Anyways I
did go and uncheck the box in front of the
Address Book. That really didn't do anything
too amazing. Outlook still survived. Now that
I think about it, I did tell Win98SE to not install Outlook during setup, but to my surprise it installed anyways. as it turned out, I found it sitting on my desktop after installing Windows. Well, I sure appreciate any help offered. It would be nice
to say bye bye to Outlook. It really isn't my
favorite program, it's really more of an eye sore.

Very odd.

On my W98SE if you go to the "Windows Setup" tab you get various headings such as:

Accessibility/Accessories/Address book
/Communications/Desktop Themes, and so on.
All have these have sub-headings.
There is no sign of Outlook Express anywhere.

If I go instead to the "Install/Uninstall" tab I see Microsoft Outlook Express 5, along with all the other programs I have installed.

Maybe it is something to do with updates or other.

Mine is the same a Derek's. The Address Book ~is~ under the Windows Setup tab, and it's a major component of outlook express.

"There is no sign of Outlook Express anywhere." (Under the Windows Setup tab.)

I did remove Outlook Express at one time as I was using Outlook 2000 (from Office 2000), and found out you can't do that. Outlook won't run without Outlook Express. Both elements (Address Book/Outlook Express) under both tabs may have to be removed.

Alas, I did it. Outlook is dead. As it turned out the problem was with an update that I installed a few weeks back. It was one of those critical updates that you get off the Windows Update site. I couldn't remove Outlook because I couldn't remove the update that I had installed. The fix? I reinstalled my OS and told Win98 to forget about installing Outlook Express or the Address Book. Heck it worked. Reinstalling my OS wasn't a major problem. It was starting to degrade in performance. Must be that OS decay thing. Anyways, I got rid of Outlook and increased my system's performance at the same time. Thanks guys, couldn't have done it without ya!
