On a Win95 system, just after the BIOS memory check on bootup comes the message: "Keyboard is locked out -- Unlock the key." I can't do anything beyond that since the keyboard doesn't work. I've changed keyboards and still get the message. Can anyone tell me how to "unlock the key"?

I am thinking there is a connector to the case you can remove (have one misplaced?). Check motherboard documentation.

Hi,

There must be little round lock on the front of your computer case. Turn it in anothes positions with special key (or tweezers if you not have such key). Or just disconnect the lock cable from your motherboard as End Efectur suggested.

Good luck, Igor M

Yep, it was the lock on the case! Have no idea how it got locked because I had to search for 30 minutes to find the key, but once turned 1/4 turn counterclockwise, all is well again now. Many thanks for the help!

Recently had same problem.

Followed suggestions from above :

Tried the 'key' method - to no avail.
Traced the connector from the 'keyhole' to the motherboard - then disconnected.
All working fine now.

Numerous Thanx to everyone above!!

P.S - Max brownie points all round - it was my bosses PC that had the problem.

HELP: Start-up error message: "Keyboard locked: Unlock keyboard"

I tried to upgrade my (4 years old) PC to an Intel Pentium 166 recently (was a Pentium 133 before).
I also added an SCSI card (Adaptec 2940UW) for an internal Iomega ZIP drive/SCSI and a future scanner.
Since my upgrade I get the error message "Keyboard locked: Unlock keyboard. Press F1 to resume." during start-up
(after memory check and before Harddisk/CDROM is detected).
The problem is that I don't have a keyboard lock switch to unlock !
Since I can't unlock the keyboard, I cannot ignore the problem by pressing F1 - the keyboard is locked !
Pressing DEL does not enter setup either.
The computer is stuck at this point and I cannot continue to boot or use the computer.
I have tried another good working keyboard and it did not help.
If I restart the system it (accidently ?) works sometimes again after a while.

I am using a First PT-2200 mainboard with AMI BIOS ver. TII107 05/05/97 (already updated).

Have you got a solution to this problem or any information concerning this error ?

Thanks in advance for your help !

Greetings from Frankfurt/Germany,
Heiko

I'm in the same boat. Keyboard is locked out/Unlock keyboard. The computer is not one that has a key slot/hole. A new hard drive was put in and we were in the process of loading software. I rebooted the computer and THIS! Right out of the blue, keyboard locked, indeed! Don't knowhwrere to go from here. I tried reset while the comp was running ot no avail. Yikes, I need that thing up and running! Help! Thanks to all in advance.

I fixed this on my Packard Bell. THere are two keyboard jumpers. I pulled the jumpers off both to no avail. I measure the voltage on both to ground. One was 5 volts and ground the other was 1/2 volt and ground. I wired the 5 volt to the 1/2 volt and it cleared the problem. I assume it is some kind of hardware problem but this fixed it permanently.

I also had this problem and it was not my keyboard or my keyboard connector on the motherboard.I had a lock on the front of my computer too and I unlocked it and even cut the wires on it and tried the system with wires attached and unattached...nothing!I contacted my systems manufacturer(Zeos)and there support told me to try the keyboard plug thing and if that wasn't it the motherboard might have went and to bring it to a tech. They never even mentioned it could be a locking devise on my case.Turns out I followed the wires from the lock to the motherboard and disconnected it there...whoa la ,no more error and my computer boots up fine! This just happened over night so the only thing I can think of is a short in that circuit.Never the less glad I didn't pay a tech $80 per hour to disconnect a plug on my board.Hope this helps other's out that undoubtably have this prob. or will have it.

I have an NT 4.0 server. I locked the keyboard thinking that it would ask me for a password to unlock it. I can't see that it does, so my keyboard is locked. Any ideas.
Thanks for any help
