What program causes the errors? It's a constant problem with Microsoft. Go to their site for some solutions, some actually work.

The ``kernel32.dll'' messages appears to be consistent with use of Netscape Communicator v4.5. I get the same message attempting to sync my new Palm Pilot in Windows 95.

Hi..I also get an exception 03h in module KERNEL32.DLL at 015f:bff768a5.

The program running when this happens is either GWORKSHOP (Microsoft's Greetings Workshop) when messing with Font changing, or/and iPhoto Plus (iPhoto Plus 4, iPhoto Plus 4 © 1992, 1996 Ulead Systems, Inc.) Here, i am also trying to change font sytle).

Both the programs let me preview/or view the font selected, and most of the time let me choose that particular font....But, at around the 6th or 7th Font that i want to look at, i receive this eror.

Any Ideas? Thanks

When you attempt to use the Update Device Driver Wizard to update a driver from the
Microsoft Windows Update site, you may receive the following error message:

Rundll32 caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll

You can still access the Windows Update site using Internet Explorer or by clicking
Windows Update on the Start menu.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are using CompuServe 4.0.1 or you installed and then
uninstalled CompuServe 4.0.1 without removing all of its components.

The Virtual Key program included with CompuServe 4.0.1 is incompatible with the Windows
Update site when you attempt to update drivers using the Update Device Driver Wizard in
Device Manager.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact CompuServe to obtain an updated version of Virtual Key.

To work around this behavior, remove Virtual Key using the Add/Remove Programs tool in
Control Panel.

I think it has something to do with inactivity. So long as I'm typing something on my keyboard every five minutes or so, the error message "invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL" dosen't come up. Maybe if somebody has a way to write a program that just presses a key or does something every few minutes, we would avoid getting the message.

Re: All Kernel32 errors and all other unsolvable error conditions.

The perfect solution is to purge your system of all versions of windows95 through windows98 OS and install LINUX OS, which is a free internet download.

I've had various Kernel32.dll problems; the latest and most frustrating is that EXPLORER is causing an excption c06d007fH in module Kernel32.dll at 014f:bff9a07c. If anyone can translate that jibberish and help me simply get past this so I can get back to windows, I'd be grateful. Boy do I miss those Macintosh days...

Here's the link from the Microsoft Knowledge Base related to this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q225/0/40.ASP?LNG=ENG&SA=ALLKB&FR=0

It states:

Various Error Messages May Be Displayed After You Install Internet Explorer

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows 95
Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows 98

SYMPTOMS
When you start your computer after installing Internet Explorer, you may receive one or more of the following error messages:

Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll

Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in module Explorer.exe

Iexplore has caused an invalid page fault in module Browseui.dll

Microsoft Internet Explorer... There was an internal error

Windows may then display a blank desktop. This issue may still occur when you start your computer in Safe mode.

CAUSE
This problem can be caused by the following conditions:

There is an invalid registry entry.

Diamond InControl Tools or Diamonds Monster Fusion drivers are installed.

RESOLUTION

Invalid Registry Entry
To resolve an invalid registry entry, use the Windows Registry Checker tool (Scanreg.exe) with the "/restore" switch to restore a previous copy of your registry.

NOTE: You may be unable to uninstall Internet Explorer 5 after following these steps.

To restore the registry to its state when you last successfully started Microsoft Windows 98:
Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Windows 98 Startup menu appears, and then choose Command prompt only.

At the command prompt, type scanreg /restore, and then press ENTER.

Select a previous copy of your registry with a date prior to the problem, but after Internet Explorer 5 was installed, and then press R to restore the registry.

Press ENTER when you are prompted to restart your computer.

To restore the registry to its state when you last successfully started Microsoft Windows 95:
Restart the computer. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press the F8 key, then choose Safe mode command prompt only from the Startup menu.

Type the following command to move to the Windows folder
cd \windows
where windows is the Windows 95 folder. For example, if Windows 95 is installed in the Windows folder, type the following line:
cd \windows

Type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each line:
attrib -s -h -r system.dat
ren system.dat system.bad

Restart your computer. Windows 95 uses the System.da0 file when it cannot find the System.dat file. If this file works, Windows 95 renames it to System.dat.

If the above steps do not resolve the problem, use the Repair Internet Explorer tool:
If You Can View the Desktop
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.

Click Repair Internet Explorer, click OK, and then click Yes when you are prompted to repair the installation.

Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

If Windows Displays a Blank Desktop
Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to start Task Manager (Taskman.exe), click Run Application on the File menu, and then type control appwiz.cpl.

Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.

Click Repair Internet Explorer, click OK, and then click Yes.

Click Yes when you are prompted to restart your computer.

If the above steps do not resolve the problem and you have access to the desktop, reinstall Internet Explorer 5 by double-clicking the Ie5setup.exe file in the Windows Update Setup Files folder.

If you do not have access to your desktop, you may need to change the "shell=" line in the System.ini file to "shell=progman.exe":
Restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key until the Windows 98 Startup menu appears, and then choose Command prompt only.

At the command prompt, type cd windows, where windows is the folder in which Windows is installed, and then press ENTER.

Type edit system.ini, and then press ENTER.

Change the "shell=" line to "shell=progman.exe".

Press ALT+F, press S to save the System.ini file, press ALT+F, and then press X to quit the editor.

Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart your computer.

In Program Manager, click Run on the File menu, and then click Browse.

Double-click the drive C:\, double-click the Window~1 folder, double-click the Ie5setup.exe file, and then click OK.

Follow the directions on the screen to install Internet Explorer 5.

If Diamond InControl Tools or Diamonds Monster Fusion Drivers Are Installed
Diamond InControl Tools and Diamond Monster Fusion drivers replace the Comctl32.dll file located in the Windows\System folder. To work around this problem, extract the Comctl32.dll file from the Windows Update Setup Files folder to the Windows\System folder.
Extracting Comctl32.dll from a Command Prompt
At the command prompt, type cd\c:\windows\system, and then press ENTER.

Rename the Comctl32.dll file in the Windows\System folder to Comctl32.old by typing the following line and then pressing ENTER:
ren c:\windows\system\comctl32.dll comctl32.old

At the command prompt, type cd\windows\command, and then press ENTER.

Type the following line, and then press ENTER:
extract c:\window~1\setupw95.cab comctl32.dll /l c:\windows\system

Restart your computer.

Extracting Comctl32.dll Using System File Checker
Click Start, click Run, type sfc, and then click OK.

Click Extract one file from installation disk, type comctl32.dll, and then click Start.

Click Browse next to the Restore from box, double-click the drive C, click Windows Update Setup Files, and then click OK.

The Save file in box should display "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM." Click OK.

If you are prompted to back up the file before overwriting it, click OK.

When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article

I'm very suspicious of similarity in the error but extremely varied causes. I'm guessing it's something hardware related or firmware not software since re-formatting and reinstalling doesn't work. So I'm taking a stab at this: if you're still having this problem please reply with a list of hardware devices in this order:
IDE0 ie. [Seagate 10G] [firmware if possible]
IDE1
IDE2 ie. [Toshiba CDRW] [f/w]
IDE3 ie. [LS120]
PCI1 specify type sound card
pci2 ditto
pci3 ditto
...
type memory
thanks,
Digital
