If your machine is erroring out on Kernal 32.dll your system registry is corrupt. Try
reloading windows again. If you still get the
errors you will have to reformat your HD.

I was getting Kernel32.dll errors at Corel Word Perfect trying to use the perfect expert where you make custom charts, greeting cards and brochures. After trying a number of things (reinstalling corel a no. of times, using boot disk) finally had to reinstall windows98 and put it in a new driver. It solved the problem but we lost alot of things. Our dealer suggested this don't know if we should have. Very pissed off. We still have our other system named as Winold.

HAHAHA!!!!!
I thought I was all alone on this one!
I had Windows98 PROFESSIONALLY reloaded onto my computer as an upgrade from Windows 95 on a HD that had been completely reformatted 5 times. And I am still experiencing these problems! Am having someone look at my computer again hopefully soon. The only solution I have heard so far to fixing this problem is getting a new motherboard or harddrive, but I don't think the computers are the problem! I think it's Windows 98! Microsoft ... we need a damn KERNAL UPDATE!!! I would go back to Windows 95 but I don't have the disk .. BOOO
To anyone else thinking of upgrading their system .. my advice is DON"T do it unless you do a complete reformat of your HD and use a complete install of Windows98 ... NOT THE UPGRADE FOR WINDOWS 98/NT USERS!!!
Hope this helps ... if anyone wants to know the progress of my problem ... don't hesitate to email me!

As of a few days ago I've been having crashes of netscape andIexplorer with the KERNAL32.DLL at 015f:bff7b997 module error. It has also come up with 015f....7b197
Before the crashes Jpeg images start to screw up with sections of the image displaced. Coincidently there has been a module error in jpeg3240.dll at 015f:6024413b

There are also Fatal exception errors associated with these crashes:
0028:c0043911 in vxd ntkern(01) +00003421

This started overnight without the addition of any new software or hardware and no major system changes. 200Mhz 686

Kernel32 errors caused by taskmon.exe on shutdown can be fixed by renaming/deleting the hidden directory c:\windows\applog and restarting your computer. Worked for me on 2 occasions with Windows98 and a big bloated 11MB registry. Time for a format and re-install perhaps??

For what it is worth. I was trying to put a tv card into a win98 pc that was working fine. After I successfully had it working I rebooted it. I was getting error messages on opening almost anything. Had problems with modem also. Even though everything showed ok, the card was somehow conflicting with modem and soundcard. I managed to clear up the modem problem. As far as I could tell if I turned sounds off in control panel, then it worked ok with sound card also. This may not help anyone, but I thought it was worth posting.

I hope this helps you guys out. this is from the microsoft knowledge base.

To resolve this situation, extract a new copy of the Kernel32.dll file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM. To do so, follow these steps:

Restart your computer. When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press the F8 key, and then choose Command Prompt Only from the Startup menu. If you are using Windows 98, restart your computer, press and hold down the CTRL key while your computer restarts until you see the Windows 98 Startup menu, and then choose Command Prompt Only.

Type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each line:

cd\windows\system
ren kernel32.dll kernel32.xxx

Extract a new copy of the Kernel32.dll file from your original Windows disks or CD-ROM to the Windows\System folder. For information about using the Extract tool, type extract at the command prompt, or see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
ARTICLE-ID: Q129605
TITLE : How to Extract Original Compressed Windows Files

Restart your computer.

Some KERNEL32 errors in EXPLORER can be fixed by renaming/deleting the hidden directory C:\windows\applog and then restarting.

(TASKMON is monitoring which programs you use, and is saving this information into files in the APPLOG folder, so that DEFRAG can put the "most-often-used" files at the "start" of the disk partition.)
