Hello,

I'm having a similar problem--I get a similar error message for a different program. I don't have an exact answer just yet, but I've been researching it for a while and I have two thoughts:
1) it seems to be that two apps are trying to access the same bit of memory which causes much confusion for Windows, thus the error (how to resolve this, I don't yet know)

and
2) I am now getting kernel32.dll error messages on my machine with other apps, but the same address. So I'm thinking now that maybe it's a physical problem with memory.

The one thing that I do know is that it's definitely a memory issue. I will let you know if I find any other explanations or solutions--please inform me of your progress as well--maybe we could help each other!

Thanks,
Lisa MacKenzie

RE: 3D Studio MAX R2.5 and Windows 95 4.00.950 B - Choose the minimum install option (i.e. do not install the bonus plugins) otherwise it will produce "3DSMAX caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL..." errors and crashes at shutdown. You can however, install plugins available on the internet at a later date.

I quote from the Kinetix 3D Studio MAX R2.5 Readme: "The Bonus Tools install option was created for useful tools and samples that are either not fully developed, tested, and/or are being phased out from the product. These tools are safe to use..." ...erm?

Thank god I finally found other people having the same problem as me - kernel32.dll crashes with 3d studio max (My location was different - 0167:bff9de3d or 3a). For quite a while I couldn't even get the program to start (after the initial splash screen, it just crashed). Even now, I can only get it to start up if it is the first thing I do after starting Windows (98). I found removing any unneccessary applications from the Start-Up menu helped somewhat. I'll try re-installing with minimum install and see if that works.

I have 320 megs of memory, so I'm also starting to wonder if it isn't a physical problem with my memory. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about stuff like that.
If anyone knows more about it, I'd be happy to hear from you.

By the way, when I entered 'kernel32.dll crash' into a search engine, I found quite a few pages and forums related to this particular subject. It seems to be a common problem with Windows.
