Comment:

I had a problem with my kernel332.dll and I foolishly replaced my kerne32.dll file with a non-corrupted one that my friend's computer had. Now my computer doesn't even start-up. I just get a fatal protection fault error before Win98 even gets going. I did all this because my Outlook/Outlook Express wasn't working when I sent attachments (instead, an email attachment called happy.exe was sent all the time). This appeared to cause my kernel32 problems as well (no virus programs caught anything). Please help!!!

We're certainly familiar with the happy.exe probs here at my office- It was sent as an attachment to me, I stupidly saved it and ran it from time to time, then it started attaching itself to email I was sending... What's it been doing (don't know if this is true in all cases) is not allowing us to open MS word documents, it just makes a copy of the document, neither of which can be opened. Just discovered the nature of this problem today, if anyone knows if virus protection is available yet for it, please let me know. Thanks.

I just received an email with just the attachment for happy.exe. I didn't open it, just deleted it, but when I highlighted the email to delete it, 2 files appeared at the bottom of the screen. I just deleted and didn't click on the 2 files. Did I do the right thing? If I have it...how can I tell or find out?
Thanks,
Connie

I have the newest version of MacAfee and it isn't finding my happy.exe virus either. I called their tech support and then sent me the following manual uninstall procedure:

1. shutdown and reboot in msdos mode
2. type CD \WINDOWS\SYSTEM
3. type DEL SKA.exe
4. type DEL SKA.DLL
5. type COPY WSOCK32.SKA WSOCK32.DLL
Answer "Yes" if it asks to overwrite

6. type EXIT to return to windows
7. select RUN.. under startmenu
8. type REGEDIT

OPTIONAL:
9. click-on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, then Software, then Microsoft, then Windows, then CurrentVersion, RunOnce. If ska.exe is there, you can delete it.

A friend of mine recently d/led the happy.exe file and I did some research on it to see if I could find the originator. I don't know if this person is, but I found a page you could d/l happy.exe off the web and it has it listed as "just a joke". I've emailed him and let him know it was indeed a virus, in case he wasn't aware, and pasted some of the comments I found here. The web address is http://www.baumbach.com/private/.

I got the happy.exe virus from my brothers computer when he sent me an e-mail. It did not do anything to my system and I did not try to detect it with my anti-virus program. I finally deleted it when I found out it was a virus.

I recently recieve the happy .exe as a attatchment to a second letter. The first letter being the original and the second one being just the attached virus program both will come from the same sender with same time and date . I recently updated my McAfee
at the on line site to Scan engine 3.1.9 and also did the .dat file update to 3.0.3205. So far I have receive the virus three times and clean or deleted it each time
