keeps freezing

computer keeps freezing up with different programs,and on start up.also on start up it will start loading then all sudden it will do scan disk,and i know it was shut down right. help thanks

Try this-Run scan disk>THOROUGH and then defrag.

Don't want to worry you but I would start backing up your files!
This COULD be the start of your Hard Disc failing.
Try disconnecting various devices from your IDE cables and see if the problem stops. If it does stop then this may indicate a problem with that device.
