Go to Find and search *.jpg

Chose any one and see if that opens in Photo Editor to determine whether it's a genearal problem or not.

Download Irfan View. Excellent freeware. If you can view a JPG (or other format) in Irfan that doesn't seem to be recognized by other programs, then it can be resaved in the JPG format. Once resaved, it should then be "standardized" to open in other programs. Be sure to download all plug-ins as well.

Hello every 1

James,
I have encounter that many times. Look at the file extension. If it is "xxxx.jpeg", simply rename the extension to "xxxx.jpg". Provided file is in working order, that has always cured that similar problem for me. Photo-edior for some reason won't open up the jpeg file if the extension is .jpeg

If the house catches fire, SAVE the computer!!

I found that Paoint Shop Pro won`t show .jpeg or .jpe files in its thumbnails. I just renamed then to .jpg and now they work.

Re sekirt's posting.

I too have many times found that a .jpg file that won't open in some other program will open fine if resaved by Irfan View.

If this happens with ALL .jpg files then it would point to a problem with Photo Editor itself.

I'm assuming that the files open in whatever viewer you are using if you simply double click them (unless they are associated with Photo Editor anyway).

You know, I am not sure why you would get an error. Maybe JPG is part of the package without the plug-ins. If you didn't already, you can try to see if Irfan would open a JPG. But for full usage of Irfan, you will need the plug-ins.

Only thing I can think of is maybe a bad download for either Irfan itself or for the plug-ins.

I think you are right sekirt, jpg is part of the package so you don't need the plug-in for that.

This is the default error message for Photo Editor when it can't find a 'connection' between the default MS graphics filters and it's self in the registry anymore. You've probably installed one too many Photo programs or munged Photo Editor's needed cross reference by another method, perhaps deleted the graphics filters or their folder as well?
Uninstalling Photo Editor and then reinstalling it should fix this problem.

Reading closer it may also be because Photo Editor does NOT make an association for .jpeg but does for .jpg files in the registry. For all photo programs with the same symptom the solution for this would be to export the entire
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg
key and change all instances of .jpg to .jpeg, save the file and then import it.
Any joy?
