Please Help!
We've got a Windows 98 system with AVG (free) and Incredimail on.
AVG recently found I-Worm/Mydoom.A - I've heard all the press about this ghastly worm and was naturally concerned especially as AVG seemed unable to move/heal it to the virus vault.
Then two days later we ran a test that showed 'No Virus detected' so it was like it just disappeared, although I was very sceptical!
Today I ran another complete test and found I-worm/Netsky.B in one file. Again AVG was unable to heal/move it to the virus vault. I decided to update the AVG Free from their website (which I have been advised to do regularly), and then ran another complete test which has now found 3 infected files! HELP! I'm not that computer literate - what do I do now!!???

Use the Netsky.B Removal Tool.
The W32.Netsky.B@mm Removal Tool does the following:Terminates the W32.Netsky.B@mm viral processes
Deletes the W32.Netsky.B@mm files
Deletes the registry values that the worm added

I've found that AVG is not as good as it used to be (used it for 4 yrs) , so I d/l'd Avast! free home version....much better protection and also FULLY automatic up-dates while you're on-line. When I started using it, it found a virus that AVG had overlooked.....technology goes on. Also, you get e-mail support for Avast! that AVG refuses to do for the free version....it's up to you, I really like it!
You can also d/l an up-dated stinger.exe and it will find and remove your virus real easy and then Avast! can clean up ur system.

also try using as firewall like tiny personal firewall and it will not allow any downloaded programs and files to be changed or updated without prompting you first.

If you had downloaded the update that came out today, AVG would have healed the virus.
My friend had 921 infected files this morning. She updated her AVG and scanned her computer and she then had 2100 infected files and with the new update, AVG healed them all.
Good Luck
Smitty

Thankyou all of you who responded to my problem!
Jay Amaro - I'm afraid my limited knowledge means that talk of setting up a personal firewall went straight over my head
Peter - If I download AVAST and try that, do I need to make sure I remove AVG first? Also did you have trouble removing it as I've read that others have had trouble with it as even though they go to the 'add/remove programs and delete it, the icon can't be deleted and it still runs itself at startup?? I'd be interested to hear if you had any trouble?

Thanks to all of you who responded to my problem!
Smitty - I updated my AVG from the internet yesterday and this morning and although it has found 4 'Netsky.B' infected files, it seems unable to heal them or remove them, but thanks for the tip anyway!
Caza - Thanks for the tip, I think I'll try your suggestion first

AVG is free, but it only updates once a month or so which is not enough to catch the latest viruses etc.

Not true Scorpian King. AVG is update almost everyday. Today latest is version 384 28 Feb 2004.
With so many new viruses coming out daily, user should be more careful when opening mail with attachment.
For me, I create a mail rule to move all incoming mail with attachment to a different folder. So that I can review them later.
