I recently backed up all my data onto disc via my snazzy new burner, and did a complete recovery on my computer, something I've been itching to do.
I do a lot of writing, as well as web page building.
But after putting all the backed up data on my computer again, I find that it is all READ-ONLY, which means I can edit or add to it - it won't let me.
EVERYTHING!!!!Is there any way to un-do this?
PLEASE?

right click on drive C: or what ever drive is read only and goto properties and it will be in there some were in there

You say that you first backed up your datd on a CD, then put the backed-up data on your PC? Well of course it's all going to be read-only! When copy data from ANY kind of CD (in any type of CD drive) it is always going to be read-only.
Luckily this is not a major problem. To fix this, right-click whatever folder or file you want to change, and click "Properties". There should be 3 or 4 check boxes there. Uncheck the one marked "Read-Only", click "Apply", and you're done!
Hope this helps.

In any folder if you highlight any file then use Ctrl+A keys it will highlight the lot. Then you can undo the read-only attribute for all of them at once.

Wow.
So it'll always be read-only?
I right clicked on a few files, and READ ONLY is never checked off.
Do I check it then?
I was under the impression it should be un-checked.

You misunderstood. When you put files on a CD the system makes them read only because you cannot alter files on a CD.
The files on a hard drive (outside of special system files) should not be read only.

Yep.
Files on CD = should be read-only
Files on hard drive = shouldn't be read-onlyRight-click your files, and make sure it is unchecked. Even if it seems to be grayed-out check, uncheck it.

The files on the CD will always be read-only and will retain this attribute after copying to HD. You have to unset their read-only attributes on the HD after you have copied them there.
My tip at #4 was to cut through the agro of "individually" resetting the files out of read-only on your HD. It saves time to do them block at a time.

okay.
i understand that ON THE DISC it is read-only.
but on my hard drive they are read only, and no ticking or un-ticking is changing that....

Easy to change them in one action.
Edit / Select All
Then File / Properties
Untick Read-Only
