I am getting an Isset_se error message when I try to install software on my PC. I have receive this message in Windows 95 and 98, with various pieces of software. The only common thread that I can think of is that all of the software is on a CD and I believe they are 32-bit. I have tried clearing out my C:\windows\Tempor~1 folder as well as dissabling everything from CTRL-ALT-DEL except for Systray and Explorer, but I am still getting the message. Anybody, please help. Thanks

When you attempt to install a program from your CD-ROM drive, you may receive the following error message:
ISSET_SE caused a general protection fault in module at

where is the name of the program file you are trying to run, and
is the memory address at which the error occurs.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions exists:

Norton AntiVirus version 4.04 is installed and Norton AutoProtect is enabled.
You use LiveUpdate for Norton AntiVirus to download an updated version of Norton AntiVirus.
Microsoft IntelliPoint software is installed on your computer, and the Point32 program is currently running.
Microsoft IntelliMouse or Microsoft IntelliMouse Trackball software is installed on your computer, and the Mswheel program is currently running.
If you have any of those, disable them before istalling programs. Make sure the disc is squeaky clean too.

try copying the contents of the cd into a folder, restart in safe mode and then click the setup.exe file. You should be able to load the program from safe mode, w/o any problems.

I too have the Isset_se problem but none of the above applies as I am working on a brand new empty system. The error only occurs when using "InstaShield Self Extracting EXE". The error occurs whether the data is on floppy, CDROM or hard drive. Given I have reloaded all the software (Win95+Drivers) on this PcChips 598 MB twice I must conclude it is a MB fault as different slower CPUs give the same error. This motherboard has onboard Sis 530 video and sound. The solution provided by Diane on July 12, 1999 works but I would really like to know how to fix the problem not avoid it.

I am suffering from this same ISSET_SE problem from all programs using InstallShield, but none of the fixes seem to work. I am running win95 on a AMD K6-2 500 processor (if that matters; and yes I do have the patch from AMD installed to run at this speed) and did have Norton AV v4.0 installed at one time, but have since uninstalled it, cleared out my temp directory, tried running in safe mode, reinstalled the OS itself and even tried removing some of my fonts (someone told me more than 200 fonts could cause this), but to no avail yet. What did Norton do to my system? How in the world am I supposed to fix this? If anyone has tackled this problem successfully I would greatly appreciate knowing how, please email me and let me know!
