Comment:

I recently installed Creative's new DVD navigator, but didn't like it as well as the first, so I un-installed it, and tried to re-install the original from the CD-Rom but I get ISSET_SE caused an error in setup.exe at 0001:000032cc.
Now I get this same error message whenever I try to install any program from CD or hard drive or floppy.
PLEASE HELP!!!

I heard that setting the environment variable TEMP sometimes fixes the problem.

From the command prompt (or add to autoexec.bat) type:
set temp=c:/windows/temp
or whereever your temp directory is.

Closing Norton in the 'Close Programs' box didn't solve the problem, but right-clicking on the icon in the tray worked! Weird. Thanks for the good advice.

I don't have any of the apps listed in response 4 and it happens even if I try to install something off of a floppy! I've unloaded everything I could via ctrl-alt-del with no luck.

Try switching the DMA, in the device manager
off..
Your computer will need to restart.

Might work!!
But for me the Norton was the problem,

I have none of the listed software installed, and this Isset_se error only comes up when I attempt to install "SimCity 3000" I can still install other progs from cd, floppy, whatever. This board seems to have every piece of advice I could find anywhere. How do you switch DMA off in the device manager? I have several pieces of hardware using it.

Just for reference. It only occurs when you try to install a program which uses the Install Shield interface and an interesting work around is copy the CD to hard disk and it installs fine. This same problem occurs in Windows 95 98 and NT ... you would think that by now someone at Microsoft or Norton would have had a patch for this "glitch". If you ask me it sounds like another classis "We have a problem with our software .. it's going to cost us money to fix so maybe it will just go away."

I actually had a Microsoft Tech rep tell me the only solution to the ISSET_SE problem was to re-install Windows 95/98/NT.

Enjoy your computers ... who really controls them? you?

Installation problems: Isset_se error !!!!
Eventual answer:
Save the folder with the installation on the Desktop and run the installation from the Desktop.
InstallShield have many problems with the folder administration.
Result: Isset_se error

ISSET_SE executed an invalid instruction in
module TRISETUP.exe at 0001:0000001a.

I did a fresh install of win98, and was not able to install my Sonicwave 4D driver. I kept getting the above error. I do not have any of the programs mentioned in response 4 (and ms tech articles).

I had tried copying the cd to the hd, and still got the error. The winme upgrade disk also failed from cdrom, or hd.

I tried #6 & 12, setting c:\temp in my autoexec, and going to the cdrom's properties, unselecting DMA, clicked ok, and rebooted.

The Sonicwave 4D driver program worked great from the CD-ROM. I tried 2 more programs, and auto-run installs from the CD-ROM are working.
