Dibeng.dll Isset_se Repair for Windows 95.

If you want to know how I did it, read on and remember, proceed at your own risk.

My system is an AMD K6 300 with 8 mg video on board. I run a usually very reliable Windows 95 upgrade with all service packs installed and IE 4.1 SP2. That may make a difference in the solution

There is a dll file called DIBENG.dll in Windows 95 system that is involved with the High color and 24 bit full color display settings. Because of a clash between it and the video setting on the computer, it can give an "unable to" etc or the "Isset_se" error with the option to ignore or close. The ignore button wont work so you close and get the "fatal error" message box.

To find out if the following solution might work, click "details" on the "fatal error" message box and arrow down to see if the protection fault message says DIBENG.dll and shows a stack dump. If so, that file has to be replaced or you have to lower your video settings and keep them there which doesn't seem like an option to me.

Get a copy of DIBENG.dll from the windows 95 CD or download it from

http://www.deltasitez.nu/dlla.html

It will come down as a zip file but your zip program may not unzip it because of the same error. I ran Winzip and it locked up too with the same error message.

Go to control panel and change the display settings to 16 colors.won't look pretty but it won't hurt anything either.

Reboot.

With the 16 color setting, your zip program should work since the multi color display is no longer clashing with the dll file. Proceed to the next step. If the zip program doesn't work, restore your video settings, reboot maybe try something else. If the zip came up, keep going...

Unzip the folder, copy the DIBENG.DLLfile (not the folder) to another location (in this case a floppy diskette). Set your display settings to their original position, say High or True Color, and reboot again.

When you come back into Windows it will look normal but dont try to copy the new DIBENG.dll file to windows system now because the original is being used to work with the display and it will tell you you can't do that.

Shutdown and restart in Dos mode to copy the file from your diskette.

Type the command paying attention to the spaces

A:\DIBENG.DLL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

When asked if you want to replace the existing file. Choose yes and then reboot to go back to windows.

Run scandisk just to be safe.

Try to run one of the programs or installations that locked up before. They should do okay now.

There may be an easier way but this is the only one that worked for me after 4 or 5 hours of trying Scan disk, 2 different disk diagnostic utilities that showed no errors, Microsoft support, disabling my anti-virus, searching the web, reinstalling Windows 95, IE4.0 and a dozen other things in between lock ups till I found the message from someone who had just found the file site..

I have read all the comments and partial solutions, yet i can not even begin to try. Every time i go to display or even settings, i get an rundll32 error which then restates the dibeng.dll error. Thus, i am really struggling and need help now!

Hi, Daniel, restart your pc.....that should allow you to get into your display without the error message reappearing......worked for me.

I am having problems with the Dibeng.dll file in windows 98. I have done a search for this file on my computer and have not been able to locate it. As you already know that site is not working, any suggestions as to where I might be able to get that file

A check of my resources showed that I had less than 17% open. I put a new hard drive ( went from 4 - 10 gig) Have had the computer operating for 2 days now no error messages and no freeze up.
