I noticed a 53 megabyte file in my windows directory. The file's name is "Win386.swp". I think this file was created when I upgraded to Win98. Can I delete this file? Does anyone know what it is there for?
Howdy, This is your Swap file, you can delete it without harming the computer but it will just recreate itself. I suggest you leave it alone though since this file is needed by Win 9.x to work properly. When you're systems memory is all used up it starts using the hard drive and it uses the swap file to store the info the memory can't. The rule of thumb I use with a swap file is this. Take the total amout of your memory, as in 32meg and times it by 3. Which is 96 and keep 96megs of free hard drive space open for the swap file. If windows does not have room for the swap file weird and wacky things start to happen.
