that would be hardware and software. You would need a scanner with OCR software. You would have to tape the pieces together carefully to scan but your odds are not great for full recovery.

If you have a scanner most software packages have an OCR feature. The results will still require editing. If there is not too much it maybe better to re-type it.

May I know where can I get the OCR software?

I already have a scanner!

I cannot retype it because it is the only document and already turn into strips pieces!

Make certain your scanner software hasn't already got an OCR feature (it's quite usual).

Gotta rush off, so if not search Google and see if there is a package out there, more than likely there is a free one.

I've had two scanners.

One had "Textbridge" OCR as part of the software package, my current one has
"Omni Page" OCR.

I'll have a search around and pop back if I find anything.

I tried Textbridge and found this, but it is only a 15 day trial and will take over an hour to download if you are on dial-up:

Textbridge

I also did a Google search for "Freeware OCR Program" and there appear to be several, like this one which should do the trick:

Simple OCR

Not sure why you had trouble finding any.

Obviously the good ones will require less editing but even the simple ones will hopefully produce some near version of the text that you can edit in Word or whatever.

.... I hope you understood, you still have to tape all the pieces together like post #1 said. Then you scan what you've produced and use OCR to reconstruct the page. It might assume some of the joins are letters and OCR can often get parts of good text wrong.

At the best it will give you a good idea what you typed originally and allow you to edit it back into shape - I'm hopeful. At the worst it will be a mess.

Haven't you saved a copy on your computer or a disk?

If you get it all taped together to where you can read it, it will likely be easier to simply re-type the document.

OCR software is not "magic" and unless you are very accurate in your taping, you will get a lot ot errors where the ocr software is interpreting what it sees into something completely different from what the original said. (or leaving big blank spaces in your scan)

oh ok! And this document is a very old document so, it is typed by typewriter instead of computer so no backup!

I realise you seem to have some problem with Google so I had another look around. Didn't find the OmniPage free download but did find some other items that may help with your problem.

It does look as if we may have adopted the wrong approach:

Search Result2

Search Result3

Hope this helps.

It means that I suspected this might be a joke posting at the outset and time eventually confirmed it.
