Is Realevent needed??

I get a program running in the background...when i click control. atl. del. i see realevent is on the list 2 or 3 times. Is realevent a program i need in order to use real player? I did a find and clicked on properties of this program and got C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB...so is this some kind of automatic update? Do i need it on my computer? its lagging me

I got this realevent poping up. Zonealarm reported it wanted net access. Since I found this program very buggy and I can't find a another player that plays these files, I managed to disable it, and so far, no problems.
Restart in safe mode and search for the file realevent.exe, rename it to realevent.ex- then restart the PC. If you want to rename it back again, there should be no problem.
The video files play fine without it. Windows does not now freeze (fingers crossed).

It's kinda like adware, trying to get you to spend your money. Or generate money for them, by getting you to their site, where they might get paid on a per-load basis for their adds. It's definitely NOT needed.
