I just finished defragmenting my C drive. I restarted my pc and got a message saying 'Disk boot failiure, insert system disk and press enter.' Trouble is, I have no System disk that I know of. I cant get into safe mode and windows 98SE is nowhere to be seen. Someone please help me as Ive only had this PC a few monthes but have downloaded loads of stuff that hasn't been burned...Tell me Im not going to lose it all please!!! Oh, and dont be too technical in explanation. Thanx

If you have a win98 startup floppy diskette, put it in the floppy drive. Boot up and look for a line on the screen that says something about entering 'setup'. It should give you a key (or combination of keys) to press to enter setup. Press that key and then search in the menus for a place where the boot sequence priority is set. Make the floppy drive first and the C: drive second. Exit the setup routine (WITH A SAVE). The system should reboot and try to load from the floppy. Wait until you get the following on the screen
A:>
Type
sys c:
Remove the floppy diskette and reboot. If windows starts, Fine. If not post back with what happens.

How do you know if "windows 98SE is nowhere to be seen"? Are you saying you don't have the CD? Wha?

What Stephen is saying is that he is running hijacked OS and wants us to abet him now that his tail is in a crack...By the way, I take pride in myself when someone calls me pedant...And, yes, I have my OS CD (and key) and a startup disk...And I'm not the one you called a pedant...Have a good day///|||\\\
