Hi Sylvia,
In fact, Win98 didn't detect anything and gave its standard card.

You should have a floppy or a CD to install the video card and get Win to change the "driver"... two ways depending on the manufacturer's:
-"Setup" from the CD of the video card (easy way)
or
-Start/Settings/Control panel/System (double click); Device Manager tab; double clic on the video or graphic card line; double clic on the line that appeared; driver tab; click on Update driver button and follow the instructions to point to the driver on the CD.

Sylvia,
How did you operate to change the driver? what do you mean by "it refuse to accept any driver"?

When you delete the device (standard video) from the Device Manager then ask for refresh (or reboot the comp), doesn't the system propose you to give your own driver (from CD)?

Go into the BIOS and make sure the AGP slot is enabled.

Dave is probably right.
But I have had a problem making windows change a driver in the past and this usually works:
Go to the control panel/display/setting/advanced/adapter/change and try from there.

Or go to safe mode and remove all video drivers, then reboot and put in the cd that came with the card and install new drivers from there. (PS it will look like crud at this point.) Reboot. Might be best to check bios and make sure agp is enabled first though. To get to safe mode hold down F8 during boot up. Good luck.

By remove all drivers I just mean remove all cards from path control panel/device manager/display adaptor. Eeasiest way. Keep the new card plugged in, reboot will say found new hardware and should ask you about drivers, if not still use your disk that came with card. Reboot.

Please to make sure you have installed the agp to cpu bridge drivers and the gart drivers that come with your motherboard, else nothing will work. Then install your video card.
