Was just working away on my pc, and then the monitor went black. Tried to reboot but not much is happening power won't stay on. So i opened up the case and it would appear that the cpu fan has stopped. Could it be anything else causing this problem?

P.S. it's a P2 300, running Win95b

It is possible the motherboard is dead - in newer computers, the MB controls the power. Most likely, though, it is your power supply.

When (If?) you replace your power supply, you will need to know what format your motherboard is. Find the connectors from your power supply to the MB. If there are a pair, you have an AT motherboard. If a single connector, you have ATX (or an ATX-compatible cousin) or WTX. Look at the connector - you should see 20 pins (10x2). If one of them is *missing*, (it will be the third one from one of the ends), then you have a WTX. Otherwise, you have an ATX. I would be surprised if yours isn't one of the three.

Good luck replacing the power. It shouldn't cost more than $30 if that's the problem.

Power supply is easy to replace. Not much to it at all.

You say power will not stay on. then you are getting some power? if so power supply may be ok. if fan is off. maybe MB has overheated and shutdown, try again in morning. hopw this makes sense.
