i know that it has a problem bcus first aid 2000 tells me this but i cannot see it in the device manager to alter any irq`s

i think it has something to do with the bios settings but cant seem to figure it out

i have recently formatted drive c and since then it has occurred i have tried to fiddle about with the bios but i dont really know what im doing (just trial and error)

im running win 98 with a via chipset board

any help please would be most grateful

i think the irq holder is related to my modem card

thanks

Have you loaded the drivers for your specific motherboard?

What kind of a problem are you having besides that (possibly phony) First Aid message?

i have fax software installed it runs ok but it doesn`t detect when an incoming call is happening and obviously it doesnt answer the call

it has been ok until i formatted my c drive but this maybe just coincidental i have been chopping and changing in the bios setings
but whatever i do it says that the irq for the pci steering device has been disabled

i have had this message on irq 12 and 9 depending on what the bios has been at the time but still disabled

in the device manager it is not even listed
although previously to the format i seem to remember that it had its own tab?

im on the verge of formatting again just to see if it makes any differnce but am loathed to do it again (well you know why)

perhaps if i change the hard drive for a 2g one ive got with windows installed it might shed some light on this F*****G problem

sorry but its P*****G me right off.

control panel/system/devicemanager.
using the 'display devices by type' button, expand the 'system devices' heading to list those. Select PCI bus. hit properties tab, then irq steering tab . left click on the ? mark in upper right corner , move cursor to the option line on the page and left click again to get explanatuions of settings etc.Repeat for each option line and try any otther line there , to get quick help on things.

you can download the latest 4in1 via chipset driver pack from via home page , check for any other drivers etc for your particular chipset series
the 4in1 pack wil self install if you park a copy of the D/L pack in C:\temp then double click the file , choose the options suitable to your system, finish , and reboot.
In your BIOS settings there should be a choice for 'mini router', chose the ' Via' option.

now your device manager / system devices should show listings of the via chips and related devices.
