Hi, I would like to know if there is a program that will allow me to use my IrDA port as a TV/ VCR remote control. I have done some googling but couldn't come up with anything. This is mainly so I can get some use out of the IrDA port (abd to do . I did some messing around with WinLIRC, but then found out that it doesn't support IrDA. Thanks

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
A pentium 233 just doesn't cut it. To convert a digital video input to a digital video output (DVD) requires a minimum 300mhz processor. If you want to convert an analogue signal to a digital output, you are going to need a whole lot more processing power.
There are lots of cheap TV sets coming out of China. Don't bother trying to adapt an old computer to emulate them.

The basic problrm is IRDA uses a different communications protocol than a tv/vcr remote. I've heard of programs that bypass the IRDA controller, but most people seem to use either a modified tv/vcr remote through the serial port, or an IR adapter that runs off of the serial port.

Thanks for the info. BTW Rimfire, you have it all wrong I wanted to use the laptop as a remote control, not to display video, but anyways, thanks again.
